If you are a tubist, or tuba loving fan, and anywhere within 500 miles of
New York City next Wednesday, October 26, you might make the trip to Sweet
Rhythm to see/hear the legendary Howard Johnson and his six tuba band. Yeah,
he is a "modern" player, but still at his advanced age, one of the best
players that ever strapped on a tuba.

It is all part of a jazz renaissance in NYC these days. ALL KINDS OF JAZZ
including lots of OKOM now being played in Big Apple clubs/bars etc.

Cheers,
Steve

HOWARD JOHNSON AND GRAVITY (Wednesday) Mr. Johnson has earned his reputation
as jazz's foremost proponent of the tuba; this band, which he formed over a
decade ago, features no fewer than six of them, with a rhythm section. 8 and
10 p.m., Sweet Rhythm, 88 Seventh Avenue South, at Bleecker Street, West
Village, (212) 255-3626; cover, $15, with a $10 minimum.
