Actor Louis Nye passed away yesterday at 92. Today is Thelonious Monk's 88th
Birthday anniversary. Besides being contemporaries, what else did they have
in common?
Well, Nye did a funny comedy bit, both on TV and on record where he played a
jazz trumpeter, being interviewed for a bank loan. His character's name was
"Harold Lips"
Loan Officer: "What is your mother's name?"
Harold Lips: "Thelonious"
Loan Officer: (incredulously) "Thelonious is a Mother??"
Harold Lips: "That's the general opinion, Daddy."
RIP Louis. You were loved, you were funny and you were hip.
Cheers,
Steve
