Yes, a fine example of this was Woody Herman's Band, spread out across the
ledge behind the bar at the Metropole in NYC circa 1950's. Drummer in the
middle, 7 guys on each side of him. They were standing vertically, but then,
was this horizontal because they were so spread out single file? Perhaps a
mixture of the two?

Anyway, the music was loud and incredible to those of us bellied up to the
bar for a single malt, or two, or three.
