Hi Larry,
The agents here are all working for the venues, so if it's like that in your
part of the world, they will do a better job than the venue management of
getting you to work longer for less dough. After you build up the crowd they
will give the gig to someone cheaper.
I have given up on them and prefer to deal direct. There are agents in
Brisbane who run hundreds of clubs with nothing more than DJ and karaoke
acts. They have told me they don't hire jazz bands. We have a unique and
special product personally tailored to each venue, to sell that you need to
be your own agent.
One gig I had that lasted 4 years finished when I got into a row with the
incoming rep for the club who not only wanted to hike a commission from us
asked me , why do you need five "pickers" ??

approaching one because the Casinos and big business here pretty much
hire through them. Does anyone out there have any ideas, viewpoint etc
