Vinyl is a fairly soft, resilient material: it tends to deform slightly
and then return to its original shape.  A phonograph stylus is made of
diamond, the hardest substance known to science.  Isn't it ironic that
it takes as little as one gram of force and a few thousand passes or the
surface of a vinyl record to wear one out?
