[Dixielandjazz] Overtones

I am a jazz clarinet player of some years standing, just a busker and not a reader, I am friendly with a reed teacher who is also a jazz musician and a fine teacher and all round musician, he recently told me I should use overtones as it will improve my intonation, tone and control, I have been practising them and I am beginning to understand what he means inparticular control, any comments concerning this issue would be appreciated.
