How could I have forgotten my dear, dear frind and fellow Jazz Ltd.band
mate, the late Quinn Wilson. Quinn platyed both sousaphone and stand up
string bass and both very, very well. Quinn, at the young age of 16,
recorded with Jelly Roll Morton Red Hot Peppers in Chicago. Later he
worked for many years with Earl "Fatha" Hines in Chicago at the Club
DeLise and other clubs..
It was my great good fortune to work with Quinn for five years,
('63--'65), along with Jim Beebe and Barrett Deems, and we all admired
the pleasant man with the good time, right notes, and sunny disposition.
Quinn and his young second wife had a lat in life son when he was into
his 60's and Jean and I were honored to be asked to stand up with him as
Godparents to Ronald Quinn Wilson.
Call it a brain fart on my part, but that I could forget this gentle
gentleman of the bass horn and string bass is to me shameful. Bad Don!
Add this man to the tuba list and put the name up high.
Don Ingle
