This film was all over the various marching band discussion lists when
it came out - the general consensus among "Band Geeks" was that it was
incredibly good. A lot of people in the USA (and world) don't get to
see the bands from the Southern Black College Conference - they have a
much more jazzy style in song, drum and marching technique and they
generally blow away most "normal" marching bands.
I liked the film a lot and the DVD has much more "backstory" and
performances that were cut from the theatrical release.
BTW, there have been "Battle of the Bands" at the SuperDome in New
Orleans - they usually sell every seat in one day.
