    Believe this song and its lyrics date from a
period in United States history when black
Americans held their own high-tone balls because
they were not welcome at the high-society white
Americans' events. I've read of such in New
Orleans in the recent bio of Louis Armstrong  ...
an excellent read, by the way though I can't
recall the author's name nor exact title at this
hour of the morning. Things have changed since
then, but in a lot of ways, not much. Just my
not-so-humble opinion, of course.
