Dear Bob,
The best I can come up with is that Jerry Gray (Graziano) and his orch
recorded "Purple Pyramids" for Standard Transcriptions in the late 1940s -
early 50s.
Violinist Jerry Gray, as you know, was a great arranger and the author of
"String Of Pearls" and "Pennsylvania 6-5000", among others.
Came to prominence with Artie Shaw in the late 30s ("Begin The Beguine") and
then Glenn Miller. Worked with Ray McKinley after Miller's disappearance.
In 1951-52 played popular Club 15 radio show. Could this be the one you used
to listen to?
