Hello Rebecca,

If you haven't already done so, I recommend that you download and install the gratis "Audacity" audio program (Google search "Audacity audio Program").

When you open the program, the lowest menu bar has a click-arrow drop-down menu with all the input channel choices (Line in, CD, microphone, etc.). A bit of fiddling around with these will usually give you the desired result.
