Dear Charlie and Steve,
Sob! No one really reads my posts!
I posted the answer to who ghosted the drums for Mickey Rooney in 'The
Strip' on 17th July:
>Although Mickey Rooney was a competent drummer, the union would not let him
record on the soundtrack for 'The Strip'. The drumming heard throughout was
played by Cozy Cole.<
In answer to the other questions.
The All Stars at the time (Dec 1950) had Louis, JT, Barney, Earl, Arvell and
Cozy.
Although, for some reason, the bass player shown on screen in the film is
Hollywood-based bassist Lloyd Platt. However, it is generally accepted that
Arvell plays bass on the soundtrack.
Pianist Eddie Beale ghosted for William Demarest ('Fluff' the club
owner/pianist in the film).
And don't forget that 'The Strip' relaunched an old 1935 song "A Kiss To
Build a Dream On" into the public area. Written by 'Fluff' in the film.
But that's another story.
Kind regards,
Bill.
