Vaxtrpts at aol.com wrote (polite snip) about a van driver telling the band not
to play "Shine" at Sacramento Jubilee.

AMEN BROTHER MIKE. It is well past time for the MUSICIANS to TAKE BACK
CONTROL OF THE MUSIC.
Hey band leaders/jazz musicians, repeat after me:
"Fully cognizant of the fact that opinions are like rectums and that
everybody has one, I resolve not to give credence to individual opinions
and/or rectums derived from ignorance. I further resolve to take full
control over, and full responsibility for the musical content of my band."
Get some balls, fellas. For the past 40 years, OKOM has been controlled by
festival producers, aging fans, record producers, critics, so-called jazz
literati, etc., etc.., etc. Everybody but the musicians. Also, for the past
40 years OKOM has been in a moribund state. Doesn't take a rocket scientist
to figure out why.
Damn it, put some life into the music, and some security into your life.
Cheers,
Steve Barbone
