I recall reading years ago that the first organ to reach this shore  was 
donated by the good people in England to a church in Massachusetts, probably  
Boston. The clergy refused to off load it when it arrived, claiming it was  the 
devil's instrument! The puzzled captain sailed further down the coast to  
Virginia, where a willing crew from an established church gratefully accepted  the 
gift. No accounting for people's tastes in music or  religion!
