Last week, when we were performing at the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City,
NJ. Eminem was the featured attraction in the 2360 seat main showroom. It
was a sell out ranging ticket price from $153 to $253. . . WOW. Averaging
that out gives you about $450,000 admissions for one show.
Audience was his fans, young, enthusiastic etc.
The show reviews in the newspapers were interesting. They said the show was
"flat" because Eminem "missed the opportunity to connect with his audience."
Main thrust was that apparently he is used to performing in huge venues,
stadiums, etc., not up close and personal. That he appeared uncomfortable in
this smaller setting.
I guess this is what happens when instant stardom is thrust upon a
performer. No chance to learn the "business" of entertainment. How many of
us in the OKOM world also have not yet learned the "business of connecting".
Of course, not because of instant stardom, but quite the opposite. :-) VBG.
Cheers,
Steve Barbone
