When Bechet moved to Paris in 1950, he was revered by the French as a Jazz
Master. One of the French musicians he worked with there from 1950 to 1955
was the then young bassist Pierre Michelot. I met Michelot in 1955.  He was
a great player and a wonderful man.

Pierre Michelot, Jazz Musician, Dies at 77

PARIS, July 5 (Agence France-Presse) - Pierre Michelot, a leading European
bass player who performed with Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie, died here on
Sunday. He was 77.

His family announced the death, which followed many years of battling
Alzheimer's disease.

Born in 1928 in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, Mr. Michelot recorded and
toured with Davis and worked with other American and French jazz notables,
including Sidney Bechet, Stan Getz, Thelonious Monk and Lester Young.

His playing was featured on the soundtrack to Louis Malle's 1957 film
"Ascenseur Pour l'Échafaud" (released as "Frantic" in the United States).
