My favorite was the B. Pops some years ago, doing a Big Band
Extravaganza on the 4th.  They must have had every second stringer in
Mass. on the gig as they attempted to play Harry James "Trumpet Blues
and Cantabile"   The trumpet section went absolutely in the toilet and
are probably to this day trying to buy up all the tapes of the
concert.   To make matters worse, they ran the thing on suceeding 4ths
of July for years as the afternoon warmup.

To play "Trumpet Blues" well takes a bit of rehearsal and they
certainly hadn't had enough.
