I live about 35 mi. south of there but do work in Boston.
Unfortunately, it would end up being too late a night for me, since I'd
end up on a train which gets me home about 11:00 PM or so and I get up
for work around 5:10 AM.

Tom Wiggins sent me this press release. Interestingly enough, the panel
discussion is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Anybody on the DJML live nearby?

Cheers,

Dear Music lovers, Jazz lovers, and Supporters of the arts:

The Jazz Journalists Association Presents
"The Future of Jazz In Boston, Part II"

Following on the heels of the successful JJA panel discussion in
November at
Scullers Jazz Club, The second Jazz Journalists Association panel --
moderated by celebrated NPR talk show host Christopher Lydon -- presents
"The Future of Jazz in Boston, Part II," Monday, February 7, from
6:30-9:30
PM at the Regattabar Jazz Club, Charles Hotel, Cambridge, MA.

Panelists are: Christopher Lydon and Donal Fox, co-moderators; Gary
Giddins,
jazz journalist and author; Roger Brown, President of Berklee College of
Music; Ann McQueen, Program Officer, Boston Foundation; and Bob
Blumenthal,
consultant to Marsalis Music.

The event is free and open to the public.

Panelists will address the topic of the business of jazz and how arts,
culture and economics affect the arts in Boston and across America. They
will discuss how changing audience and marketing trends are affecting
the
arts-jazz in particular-both in Boston and beyond, and how musicians and
the
industry can direct their efforts to benefit the needs of ticket-buyers,
musicians, recording companies, funding organizations, marketers and
presenters in a positive and productive way.

Gary Giddins will hold a booksigning for his most recent book,
Weatherbird
(Oxford University Press), before and after the panel discussion.

Cash bar and light food will be available
