No doubt many jazz societies have School Outreach Programs. The Pennsylvania
Jazz Society is in that camp. They've had bands travel to local High Schools
in the Allentown - Bethlehem - Easton area, perform for, and discuss jazz
with, the band students.

This February, Barbone Street has a gig for PJS and among other things, we
are also presenting 9 year old violinist Jonathan Russell.

As part of the outreach program, PJS has also invited local high school
musicians to come sit in with Jonathan and us.

Hopefully some will do just that. Both PJS and Barbone Street welcome the
opportunity to get down with the kids and pass the torch.

If you know any young musos in the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton area who want
to play a tune with some of the oldest men in jazz, (some of whom have
played with jazzers born in the late 1800's under similar circumstances)
have them come on down to the Easton Moose Club, Sunday, February 20, 2 to 6
PM. See http://www.pajazzsociety.org Click on concerts.

Admission is free for school band students, and $5 for their parents.
Otherwise $15 for PJS members and $18 for visitors.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone
