[Dixielandjazz] Jazz Church Services - Redux.

For several years my Sheiks quartet played for All Saints' Day (in
November) at an Episcopal church.
It involved getting there at 9:00 for a brief rehearsal with the choir,
then 2 services where we lead processional-recessional playing
you-know-what. During the service we played 4 hymns with the congregation,
then played in front of the door as people file out. Lasted till ca. 1:00.
Wonderful response from the folks made it a memorable gig.

During the service we and the choir did 3 tunes by Jeff [something] from a
larger composition called "Missa Dixie". Not dixieland, but there were
brief passages for the cornet and clarinet, and the band sound gave it a
lot of flavor.

A church gig is one way of getting jazz musicians to church...
