Ah but yes: Here we go again:
It would have been much more interesting if Pat Metheny's record producer had
come to him with the idea of playing his music along with a Louis Armstrong
Track.
While I like Pat Metheny, slightly more than I like Banjoist of the same
caliber, I would rather play the opening spot in front of Kenny G's audience and
seven days of the week.
No, I don't personally hate Banjo players Folks, it is just not my favorite
instrument, unless I am having dinner in a pizza parlor that does not also
offer Buffalo Wings.
If Jazz is "was all about playing music for Girls and good times then Kenny
G. has mastered the ART." not to mention spawned a legion of out of tune
playing sound a like's trying to do the same thing.
The General unwashed Public does not know nor do they care, they only know
what they hear and like it or not, most would turn away from a free Pat Metheny
performance every day and go across the street and pay $30.00 to get in to
hear and see Kenny G.
Same thing goes for most of the other wonderful Jazz artists that Pat refers
to, even the article about the Jazz auction this morning reflects these
attitudes, Wes Montgomery's guitar only went for a pittance.
Therefore it must be a Guitar _ Horn controversy :))
Play a horn get chicks and money, play a guitar and you play to broke
musicians who may or may not like, understand, or appreciate your offerings. Not to
mention what you will suffer at the hands of the Jazz literati critics.
Yeah I know some folks think Dolly Parton can't sing either. :))
But then again there are those other folks who don't care and there are far
more of them than her vocal critics. I also Never heard a musician that did
not enjoy playing in her band.
Cheers,
Tom "Take me to the stadium," Wiggins.
They sell Pizza there too, hummm, how come no Dixieland bands have gigs
playing at the pizza stands in the Baseball and Football stadiums.
Musical content:
"Take Me OUT TO THE BALL GAME"
Buy me a Dixieland Record, I'll never take it back... :))
