Are you kidding, fella?! Dontcha you know WE Italians invented Yazz in
1904?!
Justa take a looka to the names at that time:
Nicola Nick LaRocca, co;
Antonio Tony Almerico, tr;
Giovanni Joe Provenzano, tu;
Domenico Barocco(tr,mdl,g,bjo), and
Giovanni Barocco(sb,tu);
Francesco, Giacomo e Federico (Frank, Jac, Freddie) Assunto;
Giuseppe Sharkey Bonano,tr;
Ernesto Ernie Cagnolatti, tr;
Antonio Tony Parenti, cl;
Santo Pecora,tb;
Luigi Louis Prima,tr;
Emmanuele Manetta, all instrs.;
Russ Papalia,tb;
Leone Roppolo, cl;
Antonio Tony Sbarbaro, dm;
And altri tanti; some, even disguised their real names, as is the case
of;
Luigi Louis Armistrongo;
Giovanni Johnny Santo Ciro;
Liliana Lil Ardina;
"Kid" Orione
Others just abandoned music for a more rentable trade:
Exempli Gratia: Joe Colombo, Joe Bonanno, "Al" Capone, Lucky
Luciano,
Vito Genovese and others; but they where very talented men, in fact they
all played the violin. At least carried a case.
And please don´t forget Guarino, Barbone, Martino.
It´sa da real tinga; history of Yazz should be re-written!
