A friend sent me this classic Paul Desmond quip, source unknown:

… not only was he fluid with the notes from his alto sax, the man had a way 
with words.  One time he saw a beautiful young woman keeping time with a 
well dressed elderly man, to which he remarked:

"So this is how it ends.  Not with a whim, but a banker."
