No - 78s were pressed into was shellac of various grades.
Most LPs are - I think - acetate or a mix of it. The quality and flexibility
vary according to the purity of the mix and the heat history of the
granules.
Most flexible records of the type that the Beatles fan club put out -
appeared to be some sort of soft coating like cellophane over a card base.
