Amen Bob. Simple as that. Political Correctness and all that other nonsense
have nothing to do with THE MAN'S preference.
He even have referred to himself as Louie a time or two, but only in the
context of those to whom he was talking. To those who "really knew" him, his
preference for Louis (Lewis) was quite clear.
And as other have said, "Pops" was a term of endearment conferred upon him,
by other musicians. A measure of love and respect for the #1 person in Jazz,
at least for the first 50 years, if not the second.
