   OK guys,

I did not want anybody to know that I even Knew what the Hell Benny's
were, but one of my groups used to do this song all the time. Just get
the regular lyrics for Pennies from Heaven and substitute Bennys for
penny's and you pretty much have the jest of the song.

Benny's was a stimulant pill,AKA known as Speed, used by many muso's
in the 50s 60s to help us stay awake through four gigs in a row, also a
favorite among long haul truck drivers. I can't really believe that
most members of this list are not hip to that. But then again!!! A Lot
of OKOM 'ers practicing today were never part of the HIP crowd of
Jazzer anyway. Bet Guys like Mike Vax and Steve Barbone saw a few of
these little white pills get swallowed back in the 60.s Not that any of
us ever used any of them.

That was part of being Hip in them good Ole days that we current
players survived. Most OKOMER's I gather are still into the Hard Booze
generation. as in Scotch, Martinis, Gin, Rob Roys, and Old fashioned's,
Stingers, Rock & Rye's, l which nobody under 50 or 60 ever heard of.
Today's generation is into Wines, and Designer Vodka's and Gins. Gold
Cadillac, Pink Lady's, etc.

Da times dey be a changing again. Ya gotta keep up to know what is
Hip!

 Cheers,

 Tom Wiggins

 Dear John,
I did a search, but drew a blank too.
However, we learn something every day.
I always thought the song was about Benny Goodman!

 But I would, wouldn't I?
 Kind regards,
 Bill.
