[Dixielandjazz] Barbone Street in May

If you are in the Philadelphia area in May, come see us. We have a bunch of
public invited gigs plus a few more private ones.

The Showboat gigs are with "Paul Grant & His New Orleans Swing". Paul is
Barbone Street's trumpet player and the Showboat gigs are his first as a
"gigging" band leader. We have some overlapping gigs and sub for each other
in order to protect all of our combined Dixieland gigs.

No Black players some say? Paul is Black, 57 years old, and has been playing
Dixieland all of his life and for Barbone Street these past 6 or 7 years.

Note also the mix of gigs we do. From Swing Dances, to High School
Graduation Parties, Restaurants, Old Folks Homes, Casinos, Arts Festivals,
Libraries, Country Clubs. And one featuring jazz violin whiz Jonathan
Russell who just turned 10 years old. ALL DIXIELAND.

Our experience is that OKOM sells just about everywhere. So much so, (we
blazed the trail) that three new Dixieland Bands have formed in the area
within the past year. They all seek to make money within the genre also.
I'm all for it as increased competition means that the market is expanding.

And modern jazzers are asking me to sub into the band when a regular can't
make it. Latest contact was bassist Jeff Pedraz, a young lion of jazz who
gigs with legendary jazz guitarists Jimmy Bruno and Pat Martino here on the
Philadelphia jazz scene.

Saw him tonight at a wedding we played. He is available and wants to sub for
Ace on one of our June gigs. Just before he goes to perform at the Montreal
Jazz Festival.

He may be with us at a Dixieland Jazz Party in Reading on June 25. What a
gas that would be for all involved.
