I didn't see anyone mentioning using a CD Recorder. I have done it each way. Bujt with my PC now in a different room from my stereo stuff which is in my music room, I use the CD recorder instead of the computer.
 
I don't get into trying to "clean up the sound" from the records. I did try it, using a couple of the software packages you can buy, but it was troublesome. I simply play my source: tape or record into the CD recorder with a blank cd inserted. It usually works fine.
 
I use a JVC XRL-2010 CD/CDR Multiple Compact Disk Recorder.
Happily, it has a mike input so I can add voice to the cd or even play my instrument onto the cd.
