How "modern" is "modern"? 60 years old?

Keep swinging

By way of explanation, EDWIN wrote that he was appalled when "the STJS
started to put on Zydeco." STJS is The Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society,
sponsor of the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee.

I too was appalled. Since then, the Jubilee has added Western Swing, Blues,
Klezmer, Salsa, Swing, etc. This year for the first time, we will be adding
Modern Jazz.

Like Edwin, while I don't care for some of these styles of Jazz, it has
brought new audiences into the Jubilee and enabled us to continue to grow
while some other festivals are having financial trouble.

Yes, we had financial trouble 2 years ago, but this was dew to
mis-management, not adding the various styles of Jazz. And, we have
corrected the trouble and are doing very well financially now. We expect
this 32nd Jubilee to be the best yet.

Another event at the Jubilee and at our STJS sponsored concerts which has
become very popular is the instrument petting zoo for the children. This
event will be even bigger this year at the Crocker Park. The children love
to be able to actually hold the various instruments & examine them up close.

BTW- here is another reminder: We, once again, will have our annual DJML
(Face To Face), (Bloody Mary Party) 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Friday morning of
the Jubilee. Any of you attending the festival, be sure to get in early
enough on Friday, or better yet, come in on Thursday night to make this get
together.

This is the largest gathering of DJML members in the world. The location of
the DJML BMP will be announced at a later date. However, unless there is a
problem with the previous location, we expect to meet there again. It is
aboard the Delta King, the permantently moored riverboat in Old Sacramento.

Another reminder: If you are in town on Thursday May 26, I will be playing
on the K Street Mall, about 4th & K Streets, noon - 2:00 PM, with Big Mama
Sue, Dan Barrett, Jim Maihack and Fast Eddie Erickson.
