Dear Don,
You mentioned: >"There was an Abbot andCostelo, a Stan and Olie, but there
was also Hodes and Murphy for a new take onthe odd couple. Many of us thoght
they were joined at the hip. [All sic.]<
I assume that to be bass player Earl Murphy who put Art Hodes onto Jazz in
the late 1920s through Louis and Bix records.
Played banjo/guitar with Art in some bands in the 1920s and was still
playing and hanging out with him in Chicago during the 1950s-60s.
OK now.
How about sharing a few of those memories of this 'odd couple'.
Please.
Earl Murphy (who seems to have spent most (all) of his life in Chicago) is
not well-known enough to make the jazz history books.
Only discographies with Art Hodes, Doc Evans, Miff Mole, Danny Alvin, Don
Ewell, Knocky Parker, Albert Nicholas and Clancy Hayes.
Kind regards, from your mate down-under.
Bill.
