In 2001, Harrah's bought the Showboat Casino in Atlantic City New Jersey and
about 30 OKOM musicians lost their gigs. They had employed about 4 six piece
bands and numerous duos/trios 7 days a week.

Well OKOM is back at the Showboat Casino on the New Jersey Shore with 2
Dixieland Bands so far and a few duos/trios. I'm proud to be a part of that,
but have to sub for myself there frequently because of scheduling conflicts.

Dixieland, in the New Orleans Marching Band style, is there 7 days a week
from 3:30 PM to 7:15 PM. Quintets, with no chord instrument. At several
locations from the front entrance, along side the slots, and in the
restaurants. The bands march between venues, during each 45 minute set.
(Trumpet, Clarinet, Trombone, Tuba, Drummer)

I will be on the job there April 4 through 8, then 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 27
and 28. May schedule coming soon.

Meanwhile, the New Orleans quartet appears at Striped Bass Restaurant, 15th
& Walnut in Philadelphia on April 3, 10, 17, 24. I'll be there. New Orleans
Jazz Brunch, music from 11:45 AM to 2:15 PM (Clarinet, Trumpet, Tuba, Banjo)

Plus, our more mainstream Dixieland band version is doing a swing dance in
Trenton NJ on May 6, from 9 PM to 11 PM. The kids who followed us, for Mardi
Gras to Rehoboth DE are running their own event. Most of the dancers will be
between 18 and 30, but if any of you old folks want to come on out and Lindy
or Shag (the dance), check my web site in a few days for location and
directions. You are very welcome to dance or watch/listen. $15 admission.

Other than that and a few private events, it's kind of quiet for the next 4
weeks. :-) VBG. May gets a bit busier, with 10 gigs on the books before the
brunch, or Showboat gigs are listed.

What will we ever do if this music becomes popular? Hey, Dr. Fred Spencer,
can you clone us? ;-) VBG

Cheers,
Steve Barbone
