Hi all,

 PE:
> Unless you know something magical about accounting that I don't, the gross
> doesn't mean a damn thing!>>

Oh! How wonderful to actually hear someone say this out loud. Many business
men do`nt know that. ` The gross don`t mean a thing` is like `Look at our
market share` Totally meaningless in the end.

LOOK AT THE BOTTOM LINE. It is the only measure of success in a business.

Deciding what Gross you are aiming at is a different thing. Then you start
from the other end.
1 How much profit do we need to ensure that we are here next year?
2 Add that to ALL the expenses we shall incur.
3 That is the Sales you need. Very simple

The argument about affording a headliner has been interesting. One side
saying `We cant afford one" the other saying "you cannot afford NOT to have
one`
Everything seems to revolve around getting more bums on seats so perhaps my
feelings may be indicative of the market.
I have listened to OKOM and Swing all my life, I have been to hundreds of
concerts, I have even played a bit, but I have never, ever been to a Jazz
Festival. BUT, I bought a Squirrel Nut Zipper CD in the States a few years
ago and if they were on at a jazz festival in the area I WOULD GO LIKE A
SHOT.
I have no idea what they are like on stage or even what they look like but
their music is exciting, professional, near enough to OKOM to be in my
general musical interest range.
As that guy on Hawaii Five O used to say `Book `em`

Is that figure of 4000 volunteers right? I hope they don`t all get free
seats, or if they do it should be contingent on them selling at least ten
tickets each at full price.

Cheers

Pat
