PETE MARTIN'S JAZZ KINGS
23 September 2004 - Clevedon Jazz Club

A rare expedition into the North Somerset countryside for this really excellent Bath/Bristol band. Clevedon Jazz Club are exceptionally lucky to have been able to entice Pete Martin's Jazz Kings to their Walton Park venue on 23 September.

Pete, on cornet, is one of the stalwarts of the Bath and Bristol jazz scene and has played with some of the best known bands from that area. Starting with the Bluenote Jazzmen and Ron Caines Quintet in the late 1950's, he moved on to the Leeds University based Casey's Hot Seven in the 1960's and the Bath based Alligator Jazzmen in the 1970's. In 1978 Pete formed and led the nationally acclaimed Bath City Jazzmen. Now, as well as The Jazz Kings, Pete also runs the Pete Martin Marching Band.

With Pete on the 23rd will be Nick Cooper on reeds. Over the years Nick has played with the Bill Niles Delta Jazz Band, the Oriel band, Avon Cities and led his own band cruising the Caribbean. Rod Coleman plays piano. Rod has played with the Phoenix Jazz Band, Mike Cooper's Excelsior Jazz Band and has led his own band - Six Piece Suite. On banjo and guitar will be Pete Jenkins a past member of Bath's Riverside Jazzmen, the Georgian City Stompers and Roy Reids Jazzmen. Bass and drums will be supplied by Mike Ducker and Crusty Martin.

The doors at Clevedon Jazz Club's Walton Park Hotel venue open at 8pm, the music starts at 8.30pm and its £6.50 'on the door'. Further details of this and all other Clevedon Jazz Club events, and Club membership - members get a substantial discount on admission charges! - are available from Trev on 01275 343210, Bill on 01275 842151 or from the Club's web site at http://www.clevedonjazzclub.co.uk.
