Dear friends,
Just had 'a beer' in the local pub with a few musician friends, including
Dennis, a mate's visiting brother-in-law (and leader of a 'Chicago Blues'
band) from Tasmania.
We were discussing jazz and how it was changed by bop in the 40s.
Dennis gave us a good quote I had not heard before, attributed (he thought)
to Charlie Parker.
"We were responsible for taking the fun out of jazz."
A tongue-in-cheek comment to a jazz critic, I would hope.
