Hi Lewis:

There is a time and a place for everything, even Mutes, much to the chagrin
of some folks who claim to dislike them, perhaps those who believe that the
time and place for mutes is 1933 in a burned down Ballroom in Kansas City. They
also come in hand for a road band when the trumpet player insist upon warming
up and practicing early in the morning or very late at night in his hotel
room next to yours.

Used tastefully and properly they have their place in music of all sorts
which is why the Brass God invented them in the first place.

The best place however might be in the trumpet when there is another player
in front of his bell in the front line. :))

I have a client who actually had two hit records in the last two years
playing muted trumpet
in the Smooth Jazz genre, personally I think the songs sucked big time, but
apparently the new generation of smooth jazzers out there liked it.

The best place however for a mute is actually in the big mouth of a critic.

Cheers,

Tom Wiggins

To mute or not to Mute ? that is the question.
