Dear Friends--
The ten-minutes movie I wrote and produced this past summer called "The Roots of Sacramento Jazz" is now up on the internet for anyone to view. You can use either Windows Media Player or Quicktime. You'll find it by just clicking on the following address: http://southwestonline.sitestream.com/PlaceCalledSacramento.vsml
This movie was presented on October 2, 2004 at the Crest Theater in Sacramento as part of the "A Place Called Sacramento" film competition for local producers. It was very well received by the 800 people in attendance.
The film traces the evolution of the people in the Silver Dollar Jazz Band--from their coming together at Sacramento High School in 1949; to being the first band to play at Shakey's Pizza Parlor in 1955; their spreading out in the community to form other bands and their grand reunion in 2001 at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee. The band members are Phil Howe, John Robinson, Don Van Palta, Dutch Deutsch and myself.
I hope you enjoy it.
