[Dixielandjazz] John R. T. Davies

I had just one meeting with the remarkable Mr. Davies -- that at the 100
Club in London in May of 1979 when I played a date there with the Sons Of
Bix. I found him to be a very laid back, friendly and unassuming man for
all of his already well known reputation at jazz restoration. It was a very
pleasant way to enjoy the breaks between sets. I have carried that memory
over the years as I continued to come to admire his work on new releases.
Such talents are rare and will be sorely missed -- as will the man himself.
The comments made here on the list confirm what I already knew -- he was a
master in his chosen field and we are the better for his presence among us.
