Hmm, maybe it was Al Dexter on that 78.

PISTOL PACKIN' MAMA
(Al Dexter)

Country singer Al Dexter wrote and then sang this song to the top of the pop
charts in the summer of 1943. Bing and the Andrews Sisters recorded the song
Sept. 27, 1943, and proved there were still a few bullets left in Ma's
pistol. Their version landed for 4 weeks in the No. 2 position of the pop
charts and sold more than a million copies, earning Bing yet another gold
record.
------

It was a 1943 movie in which the Nat 'King' Cole Trio appeared.

I know Pistol Packin' Mama isn't exactly OKOM, but I'm looking for any
trivia you intelligent, good-looking folks may have regarding the tune.

BTW, thanks to all who sent me the verse to "I'll be Seeing You". For
those of you who haven't heard it, it's written in the parallel minor
and is harmonically interesting - much more interesting than the
chorus. ( I think that a good 75% of verses are much more interesting
that the chorus).
