Dear Richard,
It looks like you have 'struck out' (as our Amarerikan friends say).
What is probably not generally known is that there are 3 Liza's .
1. The one that you are after, originally recorded by McKenzie and Condon's
Chicagoans on 16 Dec 1927 and composed by McKenzie-Condon-Rubin.
The 1929 George & Ira Gershwin - Gus Kahn tune (which we all came to know
and love when it was translated by Teddy Wilson and Art Tatum in 1934).
3. A 1923 tune recorded in 1923 by the Synco Jazz Band and also by Albert E
Short and His Tivoli Syncopators. (Both of which I have yet to hear.)
There you are. That should prompt a few out there.
The Condon tune was also recorded as follows:
*Bud Freeman and the Sum Cum Laude Orch on 7 March 1957.
*Eddie Condon on 27 Feb 1959 (where it was credited to Eddie Condon, George
Riling and Rubens).
*Eddie Condon on 10-11 June 1958
*Kenny Davern in Jan 1988.
Richard, you may have do what we do what we usually do in cases like this.
Listen to the records and work it out yourself.
Very kind regards,
Bill.
PS: I have the records, apart from the Davern.
