<<I don't think a website, considering all that is involved, is even
marginally
cost-effective.>>

It would be my guess that 90% of all my band's gigs come from my website.
That means thousands of dollars a years for a site that costs me about $220
a
year.

This site also closes sales for me on inquiries that come over the phone
through other sources. It has been ages since I've needed a personal meeting
to
close a booking, or for a client to come out to hear the band in order to
book.

Band site: BillSargentBands.com

My drumming site doesn't really bring in much work for two reasons,

1. I haven't taken the time to register it with the search engines yet, as
it
has, up to this point only been used to confirm or elaborate on personal
contacts.

2. Almost all of my sideman work comes through referrals and personal
contact.

Drumming site: BillSargent.com

Hope this helps!
