Well  said   and  well  written,  Harvey.  As   the  Duke put it, I  "Don't  
Get  Around Much Any  More,"  so I  wasn't a  witness  to
the  scene you mrntion,  but  it  doesn't surprise  me  because
it isn't  anything new.  A  good  many  years ago  when  I  led  the
so-called "house band"  at  the Stomps,  I was asked  to accompany  the  
recipient  of  a  scholarship  who  played  trumpet.  I  ran down a list of tunes, 
 but he  didn't know any  of
them   so  we settled  on the blues.  I  don't  have  any  idea  of
what  the  noises  were that  he made, but it   wasn't  the blues.
I  understand he's a big name  these  days.   And  that's  not
surprising either.  Have you listened to WBGO  lately?  Best--
