Congratulations to Bobby Short for extending what is possible the
world's record for the longest running OKOM gig, If he completes his
contract, in 2005 he will have been at the Cafe Carlyle for 37 years.
Not bad for a kid who started his love affair with music by playing
Tiger Rag as a 10 year old, mor than a half century ago.

Cheers,

Bobby Short Is Staying On

Bobby Short has extended his run at the Cafe Carlyle through 2005
to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the club in November of that year,
the Carlyle announced this week.

Mr. Short said in April that he would play his last show at the Carlyle
this Dec. 31, ending a 36-year engagement at that club in the Carlyle
Hotel at Madison Avenue and 76th Street. But the hotel's managing
director, James McBride, said in a statement that he was able to
persuade Mr. Short to stay on for another year.

"We could not celebrate this momentous occasion without the very
performer who is the Cafe Carlyle," Mr. McBride said. Mr. Short will
complete his spring engagement on Wednesday and return in October.
