This album was one of the very first tribute LPs dedicated to Nat King
Cole, who passed away in early 1965 from lung cancer. For young Oscar
Peterson, Nat Cole was his idol - and interestingly when Oscar Peterson
sings accompanied with his own piano, the sound resembles Nat King Cole.
It is a well-known that Oscar Peterson didn't want to sing early in his
career, because he sounded so much like Nat Cole, and he didn't want to
get compared with Nat's voice.

It doesn't matter whether Oscar Peterson's singing heard here is better
(or worse) than Nat King Cole. It's just a solemn and wonderful tribute
to his greatest idol Nat King Cole.

5 out of 12 tracks, Oscar Peterson's vocal is accompanied by large
section featuring famous jazz musicians. Gorgeous sounds. The other 7
tracks features Oscar Peterson with guitar and bass, which reminds us of
original Nat Cole Trio in the 1940s.

THIS ALBUM IS MOST DEFINITELY OKOM for all but the soulless.

Cheers,
Steve Barbone
