[Dixielandjazz] A parallel perhaps?

The following snip from a NY Times Review of a female singer brought to
mind some parallels to OKOM as played by many bands these days. You
know, the kind that play so-called "art form" Dixieland instead of
"jazz".

Cheers,
Steve (tell it like it is) Barbone

"she veers between traditional pop and jazz in a career that has been
oversold as the latter.

It is when she fails to connect with her material that her limitations
begin to irritate. She has an unfortunate habit of appending formulaic
jazzy codas to songs and of decorating phrases with twirling
embellishments that amount to little more than empty decoration. And her
twittery patter is schoolgirlish in its naivete. During the show, which
plays through June 26, her immaturity is underscored by a dull quartet
(piano, guitar, bass and drums) whose loungy arrangements, offer little
color and inventiveness."
