A couple of thoughts---
About 1943 or thereabouts---I was maybe 15. I saw/heard Benny
Goodman at the Orpheum theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Even
got there via streetcar (hard to believe isn't it?). Peggy Lee was
gorgeous (and sang well too) and at 15 my hormones were raging.
Then saw her and Benny in the coffee shop next door---I do
remember that well.
-----------------------
The live recording she did with George Shearing shows her to good
advantage. An up tempo version of "Blue Prelude" is very interesting.
Overcomes the very dreary words of the song----worth a listen.
