I believe Smithy started on Drums. Since the 1970s he has played trumpet 
in bands including the New Harlem Jazz Band and the Prahran Market Jazz 
Band (The 6 Marketeers)which played for 24 years. Add to that alto sax, 
piano, tenor banjo, valve trombone and vocals. He keeps busy.
