Murphy and Stanislaus first met in the late 1930s, when Murphy was earning a living washing cars and Stanislaus was shining shoes. Stanislaus later became a prize-fighter and was an unbeaten light-heavyweight. As well as singing at Earthquake McGoons, Stanislaus also toured Japan with the Murphy band.
