I have no argument here with Tom Wiggins, but before he, or anyone else 
proceeds with the printing of German business cards, please consider the following:

While "Messing" is the correct literal translation of "brass", this word is 
not, to the best of my knowledge, used in a musical context. The best 
translation would be "Blaskapelle" or to stretch it and to bring out the "jazz etc," 
element: Blasband. A Blaskapelle indicates a preponderance of brass instruments 
(although not exclusively) similar to the bands that play a typical 
Oktoberfest.

"Messing" indicates a material (brass) and is used in an industrial context. 
Brass instruments are collectively referred to as Blechinstrumente, 
instruments made out of metal as opposed to wood. Incidentally, "Band" (as in jazz band) 
in German is, like in all other languages mentioned, a feminine noun. Also go 
for "Sankt" Gabriel as opposed to "Heiliger".

Isn't German fun? This is why when taking German lessons, one should always 
start with Lesson #11; the first 10 are tedious and boring :>)).
