It's unfortunate that sometimes the best talents are unrecognized by the
public at large.

I would place Vince Cattolica in that category. The first time I heard him
play (late 1960s), I was in awe. His melodic expression was straight from the
heart, crystal clear and warm without unnecessary embellishment.

He was considered the Benny Goodman of the Bay Area by local musicians and
fans who knew his work. It is rumored that BG was somewhat self-absorbed and
aloof and critical of musicians...Vince had none of those characteristics: he was
an unassuming, affable and kind person.

Fans of swing and trad jazz were cheated by the fact that Vince never became
more famous; he surely deserved a greater level of fame.

My condolences go to Jack Wiard and Barbara Cattolica.

Perhaps Jack Wiard could prepare a MP3 file for the list to enjoy or suggest
a CD or album that is available of Vince's work.

Sincerely,
Art Wood
