I used to have this LP, but I don't know what became of it:

Eli's Chosen Six-Ivy League Jazz
Golden Crest CR3039 USA rec NYC 11/18/57

Lee Lorenz-tp; Roz Rudd-tb; Pete Williams-cl,ss; Buddy Blacklock-p; Bobby
Morgan-b; Walt Gifford-d

Shim-Me-Sha Wabble (S. Williams)
Make Me a Pallet On the Floor (S. Brooks)
Riverboat Shuffle (H. Carmichael/D. Voynow/I. Mills/M. Parish)
Dipper Mouth Blues (J. Oliver)
High Society (A.J. Piron/C. Williams)
Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans? (E. DeLange/L. Alter)
Blue Lou (E. Sampson/I. Mills)
Mahogany Hall Stomp (S. Williams)
Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey (P.D.)
What Did I Do to Be So Black and Blue? (T. Waller/A. Razaf/H. Brooks)
Royal Garden Blues (S. Williams/C. Williams)
Washington and Lee Swing (T.W. Allen/M.W. Sheafe/C.A. Robins)

This was a pretty solid effort. Evidently Rudd was a Yalie in the 50s. I
don't think I've ever seen any of the other players' names since then.

Does anyone know who owns the Golden Crest catalogue? I'd love to get new
copies of their Doc Souchon albums.

I remember this album, too:

Albert Ayler-New York Eye And Ear Control
ESP 1016 USA rec NYC 7/17/64

Albert Ayler-ts Don Cherry-tp John Tchicai-as Roswell Rudd-tb Gary Peacock-b
Sunny Murray-d

I've never understood Ayler's music and I don't much care for it. He wrote
the simplest melodies you can imagine -- practically on the level of "nanny
nanny boo boo" -- played them with raucous timbre over and over again, all
horns in usually in unison, and punctuated them with assorted growls and
shrieks. The idea was to sound like unschooled musicians in a street band
(in that, he succeeded) playing music that couldn't be annotated (in that,
he failed). But what's to like? I do like Cherry and Peacock in other
settings.

Rudd's recent CD with the African percussion reminded me of a much better
album called "Journey to Bliss" by Emil Richards and the Microtonal Blues
Band from 1968, which was hilarious and really swung!
